The Spano Family Charitable Foundation
“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” This principle guides the Spano Family in all its endeavors.
The Family’s business, Spano Partners, practices socially responsible real estate development. We require that each project we undertake must in some way benefit its host community. This may be directly, such as our “rent-to-own” residences in Forest City, PA which help families achieve home ownership while improving the economic stability of the town by producing residents with a vested interest in maintaining and improving the physical appearance and quality of life in the community. It may also be indirectly by earmarking a portion of project profits to benefit the community, such as our Marbella resort in Loreto, Mexico where we are building a school for the disabled children of the community.
To broaden the scope of our charitable endeavors, The Spano Family Charitable Foundation was formed in 2005 in honor of Joseph Spano, Senior. Its motto “Helping Hands, Linking Lives” is meant to remind us we are all inexorably linked in a community of individuals greater than ourselves – be it a local, national or international community. The Foundation’s goal is to use our time, talent, and treasure to find ways to give others a hand up rather than a hand out.
The Spano Family Charitable Foundation is a major supporter of The Cerebral Palsy Association of New Jersey. This organization has been instrumental in helping disabled people of all ages find their unique talents and skills to enable them to become more integral parts of the community. Jim Spano is currently on their board of directors. You can learn more about them at www.cpofnj.org.
We are one of the primary financial supporters the Friends of the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center.. This group is in the process of building a major center in Freehold, NJ be hub for services ranging from healthcare and mental health to placement, for the abused and neglected children of the area. Mary Spano was involved in helping organize their last successful gala event. You can learn more about them at www.friendsofmccac.org .
We are also very involved with helping the Bridge Community Church build a community center in a remote region of Swaziland in Africa.. This community center will become a hub for the disenfranchised of the area. It will include classrooms for the children, a health clinic for the local community, a soup kitchen for the hungry and a community center to bring all together. This is a major endeavor that we are proud to support both financially and with our own time and commitment. To learn more about them you can visit www.swazilandrelief.org.
